As the tour of Wellington rolls on and only a week after the Tour Down Under.... cycling is still getting great coverage and we as pro wannabes are lapping up the racing action! Those that were lucky enough to travel to the TDU said that it was amazing... maybe next year we will take a tour... I will chat to kiwistyle team about this!

One thing I wanted to suggest is that we as Cyclists and road users start thinking of how we can better protect ourselves from this insane “car against bike” BS that’s going on. I could write pages on this... and don’t get me wrong, I have had many incidents of rage myself. I mean, it only takes a car to do a bloody stupid move and it's all over. For me, it's not getting killed, it's getting maimed that gives me the shits! Imagine the rest of your life without a hand?? Or what about your girlfriend or boyfriend getting hit and you have to spoon feed them for the next 40 years?? The consequences are bloody real. I have a huge scare on my leg from being hit. 9 weeks in hospital, skin grafts.... I have lived it. Here’s the problem... if you walk up to someone that has pissed you off and confront them with fists, they are instantly going to do the same... but if were to go to them in a submissive way and talk quietly, the chances of them wanted to smack you in the chops are lowered greatly. So what do we do? Do we say we are in the wrong? Do we bend over and take it...... and just ay oh well that’s life?  No... I think there has to be some give and take... but sadly, not every cyclist is a cyclist and if a cyclist (riding to work in jandles) pisses off a car down ferry road.... it's “all cyclists” that take the heat. Without question, there are cyclists that piss drivers off.... I have done it... we all have. But I think (my opinion only) we have to RIGHT NOW think really hard about being a little submissive! Try really hard NOT to aggravate this car-bike war that exists here in NZ. Maybe ride single breast in traffic... maybe let a car go by, maybe wave and say thanks to a driver that is courteous? I, more than anyone, am on the bike side... but this problem has sparked huge profile... and there are sides being taken.... and one guy that takes sides in a car may ruin the life of your best friend BF or GF and your life will never be the same. Hayden Godfrey got nailed by a car yesterday, (see my twitter pic here) and these things will happen... there is always going to be accidents and people in cars doing things that injure people. But I think maybe while the heat is on, we try really really hard to just take a step back and not aggravate the situation... maybe, just maybe this will be enough to let some drivers who really are ‘horrible to cyclists” to have enough time to take a deep breath and think.... “I’ll be courteous too”! There is no easy answer...... we should group together and be proactive rather than reactive?
