RACE INFORMATION

The Molesworth Muster is truly an adventure, from getting to the start line, to the camping overnight & the race out.
You will experience everything that you have ever heard about the high country - dramatic craggy mountains, vast grassy flats & stunning crystal clear rivers. This is the land of New Zealand's largest working farm the Molesworth Station, 180,000 hectares of timeless untouched landscape.
Normally closed to the public, this is your once a year opportunity to race the original track (now a single lane gravel road) used for over 100 yrs to muster cattle from the historic Molesworth Station to Hanmer Springs.

COURSE: The Muster starts at the Cobb Cottage on the Molesworth Station and follows the original road used to muster the cattle from the station out to Hanmer Springs. The first 7km of the ride is undulating and windy road, just enough to get you warmed up for the first climb, Wards Pass. You will descend off Wards Pass and get a breather with 7km of flat riding across Isolated Flat which is exactly as its says – flat and isolated. At the end of this you will begin the gradual climb up onto Isolated Saddle. From here on it is a superb combination of undulating and winding road, with moderate & small hill climbs and some flat sections. You will be riding beside the beautiful Acheron River. At approx. 56km, just past the historic Acheron Accommodation House the Acheron converges with the Clarence River, which you will follow until the Jollies Pass Turnoff. Your final climb, 4km’s up Jollies Pass and then the steep descent, followed by a short ride on the flat to the finish at the Hanmer Springs Forest Camp. Yehaa, this ride is 80km of magnificent mountain biking.
