Tour De France Scotty Brown Tour 2009

THE TEAMTHE TEAM

SCOTTY BROWN
Scotty Browns

SCOTTY has been into bikes for 20 years! As a youngster he loved bikes and his first bike was a Morrison 10 speed. Starting in the development cycling programme at the track in Christchurch, he then got into it bigger and better!

Scotty has an illustrious career - winning almost every novice medal at the South Island track champs, bronze in events at NZ track championships, medals at NZ track champs as a junior and even stealing the show winning the Harbour Race (now a leading NZ cycling event)… he has cycling deep in his veins!

Opening the bicycle empire at 18 years old Scotty set about sponsoring major events, athletes and giving so much back to the game that gave him so much. These days you'll see Scotty riding most weekends. Competing in the Ironman, racing 1000km to raise $45000 for Cholmondeley Childrens Home and being part of some of the great events around New Zealand, are all things you'll see him taking part in!.

Totally passionate, you’ll find that although he's 20kgs heavier than in his hey day the advice and knowledge he has is second to none. It’s been said before, don’t underestimate the big fella!

AIDAN
Scotty Browns

Thank god the world is full of different people - if you want some good old fashioned advise, AIDAN is your man!!!

Aidan is one of those quiet guys that has so much knowledge it just busts out of the wee fella… and like all wee fella’s, Aidan can ride a hill like a champion.

Aidan first discovered the Scotty Browns experience when he was a painter and purchased a bike… from there he joined the crew and has been the right hand man for 8 years. He also has an infinite knowledge for his passion for NZ music and was a DJ (be it low key) for RDU once a week and still writes articles and does interviews for national columns and radio!

But his real passion is bikes, owning 6 of them will help that! What Aidan offers is advice than is very well explained, and can really help with those things that are sometimes hard to find.

Aidan also pays the wages, so you’ll find the rest of the team being really nice to him on Tuesdays (in fact they get him coffee’s whenever he asks...)!

JESS
JESS

What can be said about Jess the wee rock star? Jess is simply the best little chick you could meet. Yeah she looks like a true rocker… and that’s cause she is - in Jess' spare time she's in a band and plays the drums and the guitar like a Guns n' Roses protégé.

What’s best is that Jess' other passion is bikes! Jess is totally committed to the growth of cycling. She rides almost every day, competes at the races we all seem to be riding in and most of all, when you talk to Jess you’ll get carried away with her enthusiasm.

Jess purchased a bike from Scotty 4 years ago, and within 2 years was working full time at the empire! Anyway, if you need to talk girl stuff or just need a total injection of bike enthusiasm then come meet Jess and pick her brain!

ROWAN
ROWAN
Our head mechanic. It is fair to say, that he is the hub of our service centre!

Rowan came down from Wellington where he worked at one of the biggest shops in town and brings with him years of Shimano certified qualifications.

Rowan has a spectacular work ethic and works on your bike like it's his own. He doesn't cut corners and won't let a bike leave till it’s 100%. At 20 years old, many of NZ’s young work force could learn something from him.

A mega crazy no brain big balls down hiller, Rowan rides down hill like eels swim down stream… fast, electric and with no brains!

Rowan has also taken to the art of frame building, where amounst other things hand build his own steel frames from scratch! ols school bro, old school!

JOHN MYSTERY
Scotty Browns
The oldest member of the team.. well and truly actually!

John is the quiet type with the most colorful cycling career. He’s just too modest to tell ya... so let us. Mr. Mystery has represented New Zealand in major international events, including the classic English tour called the milk race of the 80’s and 90’s.

John is the team mechanic for New Zealand cycling and the Subway cycling team and is the head cheese for Serrota New Zealand. John has attended and passed the legendary Serrota bike fitting course in NY, USA and can climb a hill like a [censored]!

John works at the empire 2 days a week, in the workshop. He in fact actually owns and runs his family business Young’s Jewelers, hence the pimped out suits you see him in from time to time!

John loves his job at Scotty Browns and wants to work there till he is 76… in four year’s time!
